LNY 2020: Bloom

Event Branding and Publicity

Client: Duke Asian Students Association (ASA)

Role:
Publicity Chair

Timeline: 4 weeks
January - February, 2020
Project Brief:
In February 2020, Duke Asian Students Association (ASA) hosted their annual Lunar New Year (LNY) showcase, a two-night celebration of Asian and Asian/American culture and talent. The theme was Bloom, an ode to a new decade and the start of spring. The goal was to create a cohesive visual identity that was inclusive of the diverse Asian and Asian/American experience.

Branding Development
Past iterations of ASA’s LNY celebration centered around the Chinese zodiac cycle. The 2019 LNY showcase was the first time a theme was chosen outside of the zodiac animal. Although the Year of the Pig was recognized, the theme of “Reflections” was greatly emphasized (an effort by 2018-2019 ASA cultural chair, Grace Shen, and publicity chair, Elizabeth Lee). In 2020, ASA continued this effort towards inclusivity and diversity by selecting the theme of “Bloom.”

Each flower in the graphic is the national flower of a country or region in Asia that celebrates Lunar New Year or a lunisolar holiday. There are 20 countries and regions represented.
